Discover Marine Science offers 8 week-long day-camp-style programs through the Town of Kingston's Recreation Department. Each week is a different theme, and each day a different part of the theme is covered. Programs run for two age groups: Naturalists (entering 2nd - 4th grade) meet from 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM and Ecologists (entering 5th - 7th grade) meet from 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM. All programs are held at the Jones River Landing Environmental Heritage Center in Kingston, MA.

 

​Marine Biology A-Z

June 23rd – 27th
This is your chance to learn everything about marine biology that we can fit into one week! From food webs, ocean habitats, seaweed to seals, and everything in between! Be ready to get your hands wet and think like a marine biologist as we enter the fascinating ocean world. ​

​One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
July 7th – 11th
Black fish, blue fish, old fish, new fish! This week is all about the many fish that live in the sea. We’ll discover the characteristics that make these creatures and get to encounter and study some local fish up close and personal.​

It’s a Tough Intertidal Life!​

July 14th – 18th
Watch out for the waves, the hot sun, cold water, and that gull! Creatures living in the intertidal zone sure have a tough life. Learn about the unique adaptations these animals have to survive and interact with several local species.​

​No Bones About It​

July 21st – 25th
No bones, soft bodies, and lots of interesting behaviors — squid, jellyfish, crabs, and others make up over half the animal world! Join us as we discover many amazing marine invertebrates this week.​

​A Whale’s Tale

July 28th – August 1st
Let’s take an unforgettable journey with the gentle giants of the sea and investigate what makes whales so different. We will discover how whales feed, how they stay warm, and how to identify individuals! ​

Marsh Madness

August 4th – 8th
Where do crabs, shrimp, and fish go to grow up? How do they survive in a vast ocean where everything is looking for a small, defenseless, easy meal? What is that is that stinky smell? In the salt marsh, all of these questions will be answered.​

 

​JAWS!

August 11th – 15th
There are more than 350 species of sharks! From the tiny 6-inch dwarf lanternshark to the 50-foot whale shark, we will discover all about sharks and their cousins, the skates and rays.​

​Aliens & Invaders

August 18th – 22nd
They don’t come from spaceships but they are definitely not from around here! Where did they come from and how did they get here? Let’s take a look at some alien and invasive species and discuss what these organisms mean for our precious marine ecosystems.​
